This semester, the Event Management program celebrates the retirement of beloved professor Tracy Hufford, who has been a faculty member in the program since its inception in 2015.
Hufford has taught countless Event Management courses, shaping the academic and professional journeys of students through her compassion, encouragement, and unwavering support.
“We are all so lucky to have had Tracy in our lives and as a founding mother of our program,” said certificate coordinator Heather Spangler. “She truly made a tremendously positive impact.”
In addition to her work with the certificate, Hufford played a key role in Green Bandana, a student organization dedicated to mental health awareness and advocacy on campus. Tracy has consistently gone beyond to mentor and inspire those around her, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to influence future generations of event professionals.
Alumni and students celebrated Hufford’s impact with a surprise celebration during the spring graduation event and through contributed letters of thanks presented to her in a scrapbook.
Alumna Hannah McCreight wrote, “From the very beginning, [Tracy] treated me not just as a student, but as a young person trying to find who they are. [She] gave me the space to grow, to learn, and find confidence in myself — something I will always carry with me.”
Alumna Lizzie Sorensen said, “[Tracy] created a space where people feel supported, heard, and cared for. [Her] genuine love and compassion for others has made a lasting difference.”
