Event Management Internship

Internships are a required cornerstone of the Event Management Certificate program, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application. By completing an internship, students gain valuable hands-on experience that enhances their understanding of event management concepts while developing essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, and organizational leadership.

Working in a professional environment allows students to build meaningful connections within the industry, laying the foundation for future career opportunities. These experiences not only help students apply classroom knowledge but also give them a competitive edge in the job market. The internship is an opportunity to explore career paths, refine professional goals, and make a lasting impact in the event management field.

Internship Process

  • Prereqs

    Step 1

Before registering for the internship course, students must complete the following:

    · EVNT:3154 or SRM:3154 (Foundations of Event Management).

    · One of the core courses:

    ·  EVNT:3260 (Event Management Workshop),

    ·  SRM:3147 (Sport Event Management).

    Contact instructor for individual circumstances

  • Find internship

    Step 2

Students take the lead in securing their own internship, but the instructor is available to provide guidance and support throughout the process. Support is available for identifying opportunities that align with career goals.

A valid internships consists of work in the field of event management with a minimum of 135 hours while supervised by a professional.

The internship course is a companion piece to working the internship. They need to be performed simultaneously.

  • Add internship

    Step 3

Enroll in EVNT:2110 (internship course) on your schedule builder in MyUI. Once it's added, interact with the course for next steps.

How do I know if an Internship qualifies for credit?

If you're unsure whether an internship qualifies, reach out to the course instructor as soon as possible. This will give you time to find another opportunity if the current one doesn't meet the requirements.

How many hours do I need to complete for the internship?

Internships must be a minimum of 135 hours to qualify for credit. While 135 hours is the minimum requirement, we encourage you to gain as much experience as possible—the more hours and experience, the better!

Does it matter if my internship is paid or unpaid?

Both paid and unpaid internships qualify for credit. However, we strongly encourage employers and students to agree on some form of compensation, whether through pay or a stipend, as the work you do is valuable and benefits the employer.

What if I find a great internship but haven't completed the prerequisites?

Let’s talk! Reach out to the internship course instructor to discuss possible strategies or adjustments. We can often work out a plan to help you move forward.

What if I can't find an internship?
